The
Kolar Gold Field is situated in the south of
Bangarpet Taluk of the Kolar District, Karnataka State, to east
flow ridge of hills of which Dod Betta hill, 3195 feet above sea level, is the most conspicious point.
It is about 30 kms from Kolar and 100 kms from Bangalore.
KGF is estimated to have yielded 800 tonnes of gold since mining began in 1880. The old and abandoned mines have a dozen dumps of waste, which companies such as IMC believe can yield some gold.

There are only two major Industries in KGF, one being the BGML and second being BEML. The shutdown of BGML has left many families in the middle of
nowhere. BEML has stopped
recruting new employees many years ago, there is no major alternate employment.
KGF has some of the premier establishments in the country like National Institute of Rock Mechanics
(NIRM), is a defense undertaking body and Bhaba Atomic Research Centre
(BARC).

place has nurtured the religious beliefs of many; it's a host for a large number of churches and temples.
Many religious festivals are conducted with a lot of harmony may
if be the 'Mary's fest' in the church of ' Mother of Mines' or the ' Pushpa
Palak' the chariot of a Hindu God Lord Venkateshwara.
